Echoes from Unrequited Love


The platform was crowded.

Announcements echoed.

Footsteps passed.

Luggage rolled over uneven ground.

Babli stood near the edge, holding her bag, scanning the crowd.

Pawan saw her first.

Their eyes met.

She smiled - the kind of smile that expected a step forward.

He took one back.






She noticed the space he created.

“Did I do something?” she asked quietly.

“No,” he replied. “I just think… distance is better.”

“For whom?” she asked.

“For you,” he said.

She held his gaze.

“I never asked you to protect me,” she said softly.

“I know,” he replied. “That’s why I have to.”







The announcement came again.

She turned away.

He stayed.

That was the day Pawan learned - 
distance can also be an act of love,
even when it breaks both hearts.
