Behavioural Economics Part2: Social Comparison Bias and the Economics of Anxiety

Image
Behavioural Economics - Part 2 Social Comparison Bias and the Economics of Anxiety Why Comparison Costs More Than We Admit Introduction: When Comparison Becomes Invisible Pressure In Part 1, we explored how status quietly shapes human behaviour and economic decisions. In this part, we move deeper — into the emotional engine behind status behaviour: 👉 Social Comparison Bias 👉 And the Anxiety it silently produces Classical economics assumes that individuals assess their position independently. Real life shows something very different. Humans evaluate themselves relative to others - and that comparison has a cost. That cost is not always financial. Very often, it is psychological anxiety . 1. What Is Social Comparison Bias? (In Simple Human Terms) Social Comparison Bias refers to the natural tendency of humans to: Measure their success against others Evaluate worth through relative position Feel satisfied or dissatisfied based on comparison, not absolute condition People rarely ask: “A...

Return to the Root Part 6: Mind as an Equation

Image
Return to the Root – Part 6 Mind as an Equation When the observer and the universe balance on both sides A Note to the Reader This is not a lesson to be memorized. It is not a belief to be accepted. Read this the way you would watch your breath -  without effort, without resistance. If something feels unclear, let it remain so. Clarity does not arrive by force. It arrives when the mind is ready to balance. The Question That Arrives Naturally So far, we observed patterns outside us. Sound. Rhythm. Geometry. Nature. But slowly, almost quietly, a question begins to arise: If order exists everywhere -  in syllables, in shapes, in flowers, in growth -  where is the mind placed in this equation? Is it merely an observer? Or is it part of the structure it is trying to understand? The Mind as a System, Not a Mystery The human mind is often described as chaotic. But chaos is usually just unseen order. Across ancient traditions, the mind was never treated as abstract. It was mapped...

When Life Refuses to Average Out

Image
Part 2 Of Saturday Blog  When Life Refuses to Average Out Statistics, Probability & Humanity Opening Reflection Not all data lies in textbooks. Some data sits quietly beside us - in auto-rickshaws, cabs, signals, and silences. After that incident, more stories unfolded - each an outlier, yet part of a larger pattern. More Realities from the Road The same driver shared a contrasting memory. Once, during heavy rain, a lady with her school-going child waited for a cab. Though the distance was short - often refused by drivers - he agreed. She offered a ₹500 note. The driver advised her to keep change, especially while travelling with a child. He returned the exact amount without cutting even a rupee. Touched, she said, “You speak like my father. I see him in you.” She didn’t take the money back. That was the day when probability of goodness defeated certainty of expectation. My Own Failure I remembered my own incident. Sharing an auto-rickshaw, two of us paid ₹10 each. A thir...

When the Fare Meter Stops: Real-Life Stories

Image
When the Fare Meter Stops  A Silent Study of Human Behaviour Opening Life doesn’t always move by formulae. Sometimes, it moves like traffic - unpredictable, impatient, and revealing. That morning, our cab stopped at a busy signal. I was travelling with a Karate teacher. We were heading towards our Sports Day heat events - semi-finals of discipline, effort, and preparation. I didn’t know then that before reaching the playground, life itself would conduct a live experiment on human behaviour. The Incident At the signal, a well-educated lady insisted on entering our cab. Fluent English. Confident presence. Early fifties. From a VIP locality. She addressed the driver politely - “ Papaji ”, not “ uncle ji ”. Politeness sounded refined, intention felt unclear. I intervened gently, “Madam, we are going to Priyadarshini Park, Nepean Sea Road.” For a moment, I forgot my past experiences. I forgot all my lessons. I forgot probability. I became a layman. She opened the front door. The driver ...

The Mathematics of Healing Part 3

Image
THE MATHEMATICS OF HEALING PART 3 The Spiritual Equation of Life: Where Math, Meaning & Inner Peace Meet Mathematics is not only numbers. It is rhythm, balance, harmony, symmetry, flow - the very qualities spirituality has taught humanity for thousands of years. If Part 1 healed the mind, and Part 2 healed the heart , then Part 3 heals the soul  - by showing how mathematics quietly guides our spiritual journey. 1. The Spiritual Side of Numbers Every living thing vibrates in mathematical precision. Your heartbeat: a rhythmic oscillation Your breath: a cyclic pattern Your seasons: a periodic function Your growth: an exponential curve Math is not outside you. It is inside your body, your choices, your timing, your evolution. Your life runs on a spiritual formula that you are already living. 2. Philosophers Used Math Without Calling It Math Spiritual teachers across civilizations used mathematical thinking: Buddha’s Middle Path = The Perfect Mean Choosing balance between extremes....

3rd Journey Towards Self-Realisation - When the Universe Spoke Back

Image
Part 3: When the Universe Spoke Back The Silence That Spoke Louder Than Words There comes a time when the world becomes silent — and the only voice you hear is the Universe itself. During the lockdown of COVID-19 , when the world stood still, I found myself completely alone at home. My family had gone to Ahmedabad soon after my elder daughter’s exams — and due to restrictions, they got stuck there. I was alone for 99 days — but not lonely. Because in those 99 days, the Universe became my closest companion. The Dialogue with the Universe In that stillness , something magical happened. Under the guidance of the Universe, I began creating — educational, motivational, and spiritual videos. They weren’t just recordings — they were conversations between me and the divine energy I call “ Universe .” Together, we reached out to teachers, parents, students, and even strangers — anyone who needed a little light during those dark days. Many teachers then were struggling to shift to online teac...

1st Journey Towards Self-Realisation - The Child Who Asked, “Who Am I?”

Image
The Child Who Asked, “Who Am I?” A Journey Towards Self-Realisation Part 1 Opening Since my childhood, I have been exploring some “ jhakjhor dene wale sawaal ” — questions that shake the very roots of existence: Who am I? Why am I living here? Why do I take birth and die? What am I truly gaining in this world? These questions were not learnt from any book; they simply arose in my innocent mind when I was barely six or eight. Too young for others, perhaps — yet those thoughts felt ancient within me. The Early Quest I asked everyone — from fourth-class employees to top officers, from humble villagers to great entrepreneurs. Some laughed . Some listened . Some feared I might leave for the Himalayas in search of God. A few even thought I was psychologically disturbed. But my questions were genuine — my search was honest . Once, when a sadhu visited our village for a pravachan, the village head , Late Shri Ramesh Veer Singh, fondly introduced me to him. I asked, “ Who am I ?” He smiled ...

A Journey Towards Self-Realisation Index

Image
A Journey Towards Self-Realisation Index A soul’s dialogue with the Universe — from innocent questions to infinite answers. A Note Before You Begin... There are questions that shake the soul — Who am I? Why am I here? As a child , I asked them with innocent wonder. As an adult , I searched for their answers in books, people, and silence. What began as curiosity became companionship — with the Universe itself. Each part of this journey is a reflection , a revelation , and a reminder that life’s deepest truths are often whispered through our own thoughts. Welcome to this divine series, “A Journey Towards Self-Realisation” — a soul’s dialogue with the Universe, from innocent questions to infinite answers.  Phase 1: The Childhood Quest (Roots of Wonder) Part 1 – The Unanswered Questions A curious child asks: Who am I? Why am I here? — and begins his lifelong journey of wonder. https://mathivationhub.blogspot.com/2025/11/the-child-who-asked-who-am-i.html Part 2 – The Potter’s Wisdom ...

Sunday Special: A Reflection on Values and Intentions

Image
“When teaching becomes worship, learning becomes divine.” Teacher Talks: A Reflection on Values and Intentions (A soul-connected write-up for parents, teachers, and learners) Disclaimer This write-up is not meant to hurt anyone’s emotions, profession, or personal beliefs. It is neither against tutors nor in favour of teachers. It is purely a heartfelt reflection based on real-life observations, intended only to inspire, introspect, and heal. If it raises questions, let those be questions of conscience, not controversy . Opening Thoughts Too much desi ghee at once isn’t good for physical or mental health, and the same applies to thoughts that are too intense to digest. So today, I’m taking a sensitive route - a topic that touches hearts and minds alike. Some readers mentioned my previous blogs were too deep for the common reader. The feedback was genuine, and as the Universe guided me, I felt moved to write something that connects emotionally with everyone - parents, teachers, an...

Mathematics — The Path to Self-Realization

Image
Mathematics :  The Path to Self-Realization Part 1 From the Dot to the Pentagon A spiritual interpretation through geometry and numbers By Rakesh Kushwaha Founder, Mathivation HUB Dedicated to inspiring young minds through Mathematics, Motivation, and Meaningful Learning. “Mathematics is not a subject — it’s the script of the Universe” Introductory Note Every symbol in mathematics carries a vibration — a hidden message from the cosmos. A dot, a line, a circle, or infinity — each speaks the language of creation, discipline, and divine order. This is not a lesson in geometry, but a meditation on life itself — where numbers meet nature, and logic merges with the soul. Through these reflections, I invite you to walk the sacred path from “I” to “Aham Brahmāsmi.” A Dot :  The Beginning of Everything Before anything existed, there was just a dot — a Bindu, a symbol of potential. In science, it’s the point of singularity — the origin of creation. In spirituality, it is the Self — pu...

Why Do People Often Tell Lies?

Image
Why Do People Often Tell Lies? Telling lies is one of the most common human habits. It is often not born out of evil intentions, but rather from fear, insecurity, or the desire to protect relationships. 1. Lies as a Defense Mechanism People often tell lies to defend themselves or to overcome fear. It becomes a momentary solution in unavoidable situations — a quick escape to avoid blame, punishment, or emotional pain. 2. Lies Create Confusion and Diversion When someone lies, it diverts attention from the real issue and creates suspicion. Though it may offer temporary relief, it usually leads to more complications later. 3. Lies as a Psychological Comfort Sometimes lies work like medicine. People love to hear pleasant things about themselves — and in order to please others (bosses, colleagues, relatives, or friends), we create stories that sound good but are not true. 4. Timing of Truth There is always an appropriate time to speak the truth. Immediate honesty is not always appreciat...

जब राम लौटे, तब पूजन लक्ष्मी-गणेश का क्यों?

Image

The Untold Reasons We Worship Lakshmi and Ganesh on Diwali

Image
Ever Wondered Why We Worship Lakshmi and Ganesh on Diwali Instead of Lord Ram? Every year, millions of diyas light up homes to celebrate the return of Lord Ram to Ayodhya . Yet, on this sacred night, our prayers and rituals are offered to Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Ganesh. 6 Have you ever paused to wonder why? This question, simple yet profound, carries the essence of our culture — a blend of wisdom, prosperity, and divine harmony . The answer lies deep within our ancient scriptures and beautifully connects Satyuga and Tretayuga, faith and philosophy, light and life. The Dual Significance of Diwali According to the Vishnu Purana and Padma Purana , Diwali unites two divine events: In Satyuga :  On Kartik Amavasya, Goddess Lakshmi emerged from the ocean during the Samudra Manthan (the great churning of the ocean). Her appearance symbolized the awakening of purity, wealth, and divine grace in the universe. In Tretayuga :  Lord Ram returned to Ayodhya after 14 years of exile ...

Math Is Not As Difficult As It Is Portrayed!

Image
Math Is Not As Difficult As It Is Portrayed! Many students, parents, and even some teachers believe that Mathematics is the most difficult subject. But I have a different opinion — and I’d like to support it with a few simple truths. Math: The Most Useful Tool in Human Life We use mathematics in almost every known and unknown activity — from managing time, money, and distances to cooking, shopping, and decision-making. Math is not difficult; it’s simply deeply systematic and beautifully organized. When presented in an engaging and structured way, any learner can enjoy it. Why People Misunderstand Mathematics? The problem is not with math itself, but with the approach. Mathematics is clear, transparent, and truthful. It doesn’t leave space for opinions or guesses — ❌ Wrong is wrong. ✅ Right is right. There’s no draw in a math match — you either win or lose. That’s exactly why many learners fear it. They celebrate when they “win” with a correct answer, and feel defeated when they “lose.”...

When the Lift Stopped — Humanity Was Tested! || Humanity Vs Judgment

Image
When the Lift Stopped — Humanity Was Tested It was a busy morning at the railway station . People were rushing in all directions — some to catch their trains, others to receive loved ones. The sound of announcements, footsteps, and rolling suitcases filled the air. I entered an elevator with my family. Within moments, it became crowded — men, women, children, luggage, and impatience all packed together. The door tried to close but bounced back. The lift was overloaded. Someone had to step out. All eyes began scanning the crowd. A silent question hung in the air — “Who will move out?” Everyone’s gaze finally settled on a young man standing near the door, with his wife and little daughter. But he didn’t move. He stood firm — calm, but determined. People began murmuring. Someone said irritably, “Why can’t he step out?” Another muttered, “People these days have no manners!” The atmosphere grew tense. Sensing the discomfort, an elderly man, perhaps in his sixties, took a deep breath and sai...
