Your Attitude Matters Part 6: A Real Story from the World Around Us

Your Attitude Matters - Part 6

A Real Story from the World Around Us

Opening: Economy, Convenience & the Invisible Cost

In every era, Economic progress often promises comfort and efficiency.

Yet, with every solution we adopt, a new question quietly emerges - are we becoming better, or just busier?

Economics teaches us how to earn more, but attitude decides how wisely we live.

The Story

Prempal was a content man, rooted in village life. He walked miles every day for work, breathing fresh air, living within his means, and enjoying the rhythm of rural culture. His needs were simple, his mind was peaceful.

A wealthy friend once suggested, "Why don’t you buy a second-hand bicycle? It will save time and energy." The advice made sense. Prempal bought a bicycle and started working more efficiently.

Time passed.

The same friend suggested upgrading to a second-hand motorcycle. Again, the logic was convincing - more speed, more productivity, more income. Prempal complied and began earning more.

Years later, Prempal moved to a town. Life changed, but he remained adaptable. His friend, meanwhile, shifted to a big city for business. When they met again, the advice continued - "Buy a car. It’s safer and helps carry things easily."

Prempal bought a second-hand car, and eventually, a brand-new branded one.

Excited, he went to show his new car to his rich friend.

But what he saw stunned him.

His friend was walking on the road - calmly, steadily - just like Prempal used to do in his village years ago.

Surprised, Prempal asked, "Why aren’t you using your car today?"

The friend smiled softly and replied, "I’m very health conscious. I walk daily to burn extra calories."

Prempal stood silent.

For the first time, progress felt confusing.

Reflections

This story is not against progress, vehicles, or comfort. It highlights a deeper paradox of modern economics:

  • We work harder to buy convenience.
  • Later, we spend time and money to regain what convenience took away -  health, balance, simplicity.

Attitude decides whether growth becomes freedom or fatigue.

Takeaways

  • Economic growth must walk alongside self-awareness.
  • Comfort without consciousness creates imbalance.
  • What we give up unknowingly, we try to recover deliberately.
  • Attitude helps us choose need over habit.

From the Desk of the Author

Life taught me that economics answers how much, but attitude answers how enough. Real wisdom lies in knowing when to accelerate — and when to walk.

An Honest Question to Readers

Are you running for comfort today… or walking back to balance tomorrow?
