Reflection 2: From the Unrequited Love Series
Part 2 – Love That Is Afraid of Itself
Reflection from the Unrequited Love Series
From the Desk of the Author
Reflection
Some emotions do not ask for expression.
They only ask for acknowledgment.
This kind of love does not rush.
It does not demand clarity or confession.
It exists quietly, adjusting itself around rules, routines, and responsibilities.
It learns where to stand.
It learns when to retreat.
It learns how to care without claiming.
Such love is not unsure of its feeling —
it is unsure of its permission.
There is warmth in closeness, yet alertness in every moment.
Silence becomes safer than honesty.
Distance becomes a form of protection.
The heart knows what it feels,
but the mind keeps asking: Is this allowed?
So affection finds indirect ways to exist.
Through concern instead of desire.
Through presence instead of promise.
Through restraint instead of rebellion.
This love is not weak.
It is disciplined.
But discipline has a cost.
When emotions are repeatedly asked to wait, they learn to doubt themselves.
They begin to wonder whether they are real or merely imagined.
Over time, love becomes careful even with itself.
It avoids recognition.
It avoids naming.
And yet, it remains.
Because love that is afraid of itself does not disappear.
It simply lives quietly, hoping not to be noticed — even by the one who feels it.
The deepest emotions are often the most restrained.
Not because they lack intensity, but because they carry responsibility.
This reflection is not about hesitation.
It is about how love adapts to survive.
