Every day in Rakesh Sir’s Math Lab, mathematics quietly meets life.
This notebook records small classroom moments where mathematical ideas reveal something deeper about learning, thinking, and human experience.

Opening Thought

How do we earn money?

The question seems simple…
but the answers reveal a journey.

Not just of earning - 
but of growing, sharing, and owning.


Lab Observation

The class began with a question:

“How do we earn money?”

Responses came instantly - 

  • Hourly wages
  • Daily income
  • Monthly salary
  • Yearly packages

Some added:

  • Overtime for extra hours
  • Commission on sales
  • Payment per piece of work

The board filled quickly.

And then a realization appeared - 

There are many ways to earn… 

but all depend on time or effort.

 


Real Classroom Connection

Then the question shifted:

“How do we earn… without directly working for every hour?”

Silence.

Then came answers:

  • Start a business
  • Open a shop
  • Trade products

But another question followed:

“How do we start big… without money?”

Now the thinking deepened.


What We Noticed

Students began connecting ideas:

  • Borrow money → Loans
  • Use skills → Ideas
  • Use contacts → Goodwill

And then came a powerful structure:

Big businesses are not built alone.

They are built through:

  • Knowledge (Engineer, Doctor, Creator)
  • Money (Investor, Capitalist)

Together, they form something larger - 

A company.

 


The Shift: From Earning to Ownership

Instead of working for money…

We explored:

What if we own a part of something?

That’s where shares entered.

  • A company is divided into small parts
  • Each part = a share
  • The owner = a shareholder

Learners’ Response

A student said:

“Sir… so instead of earning every day,
we can earn by owning something?”

Another added:

“More shares… means more control?”

And the class connected instantly.


Understanding Dividend 

When a company earns profit - 

It may share a part of it.

That share is called:

Dividend

A return… not for working daily,

but for being a part owner.


A Quiet Structure

We observed:

  • Face Value → Original value of a share
  • Market Value → Current value in the market

And three situations emerged:

  • At Par → Both values equal
  • Above Par → Market value higher (Premium)
  • Below Par → Market value lower (Discount)

Power of Ownership

A deeper realization appeared:

  • More shares → More ownership
  • More ownership → More control

And somewhere beyond 50% - 

Decision power shifts.

Money is not just about income.

It is about:

  • Participation
  • Partnership
  • Responsibility

Working earns money.

But owning - 

Makes money work for you.
