Teacher Talks: The Night Sudeep Came to My Door  A Pain I Carried for 30 Years A true incident from my early teaching years that still echoes in my heart, reminding me how deeply a teacher feels a child’s unseen struggles. Teaching is full of moments that stay with us forever. Some brighten our world, and some leave a quiet ache that never truly fades. Today I am sharing one such real story from my early teaching years— A story that shaped me, questioned me, and stayed with me for more than 30 years. A story of a boy named Sudeep. The Story  In those days, I was in my early twenties — a young teacher, full of enthusiasm, dreams and honesty. Sudeep was one of my favourite students, though technically I never taught him . He was in junior secondary and I left for Mumbai before he reached my class. But he was always around— singing, dancing, performing, smiling… Ever-ready for any music or cultural practice. Academically, he was weak. His interest in studies slowly faded as h...

"Why Didn’t You Scold Me?"- Friday Special ✨

Friday Special ✨ "Why Didn’t You Scold Me?"  – A Journey That Changed My Awareness Some experiences arrive quietly … Yet they leave a lifelong imprint. Today’s Friday Special shares one such real incident — unexpected, unforgettable , and deeply reflective . A journey where one man’s mistake , and one moment of generosity , changed the way I look at responsibility forever. Real Story: The Midnight Confusion on a Train Travelling with students on educational trips is always a major responsibility. It’s fun for students! And for teachers? For teachers, a train journey is never relaxation — it is constant alertness . Students move around to meet friends, passengers complain , and we ensure everyone settles down safely and sleeps on time. Every year brings a new story, but this one remains very close to my heart . Sometimes I laugh at it, sometimes I feel pity , and at times I even blame myself for what happened. We were returning from our Mount Abu trip. It was midnig...

Gifts: Blessing or Burden?

Image
Gifts: Blessing or Burden? Opening Thought A gift is supposed to bring joy … But sometimes, the wrapping hides pressure, comparison, expectation, or obligation . In a world where emotions are pure but intentions vary , a simple gift can unite hearts — or silently shake relationships. This thought came to me unexpectedly . A moment of reflection . A quiet memory . A sudden realisation that gifting , which seems so simple on the surface, carries hundreds of unseen layers underneath. This blog is an attempt to unwrap those layers — gently , honestly , and without judgment . 🎁 Gifts: Blessing or Burden? When Intentions Speak Louder Than Their Price Tag A gift is meant to convey love, warmth, gratitude. Yet often, it becomes a test , a comparison , or an unspoken pressure . A servant once offered his employer a gift far beyond his capacity. What appeared generous was actually a burden he carried silently. But misunderstanding turned a heartfelt gesture into discomfort — and co...

Sunday Special: The Unfiltered Confessions of a Classroom Life

Image
SUNDAY SPECIAL:  TEACHER TALKS  The Unfiltered Confessions of a Classroom Life By Rakesh Kushwah Why This Blog Exists Today?? Teachers, parents, and students wrote heartfelt comments on last week’s blog. Some praised the truth . Some shared their pain . Some said, “Sir, thank you for saying what we always felt but never spoke.” And one line repeated again and again: “ Sir, teachers melt with a genuine sorry.” Yes. One honest “ Sorry, Sir / Madam ” can heal a teacher’s week-long frustration. But one false accusation … one exaggerated story … one misunderstanding … can break a teacher forever. So today, I am not writing as a lecturer, author, or admin. Today I speak as a teacher — seedhi baat, dil se baat. And I begin with two stories from Mumbai… stories that shaped me, broke me, healed me . STORY 1 — The Wooden Scale & The Sound That Echoed When I was half of my present age, I entered Mumbai with a glowing face, confident mind, energy of knowledge, a spark of wisdom, a...

Daily Mirror Part 6 | Nation Above Caste

Image
Daily Mirror Part 6 |A Poisonous Poison Nation Above Caste: The Global Filter & The Real Identity (Series on Casteism: A Boon or Curse – My Reflections) When you leave India and step onto international soil — whether for work, studies, travel, or settlement— something extraordinary happens: The caste you carried for generations… suddenly becomes irrelevant. The world outside India never asks: Aapka surname kya hai? Gaon kaunsa? Kaun jaat se ho? Kaun si category? The global world has only one filter : What can you do ? What skills do you bring? How do you work with people ? What values define you? In a single moment, the caste that ruled your identity inside your own country turns into nothing more than a forgotten background detail. 1. In the Global World, Caste Has No Currency Abroad: Doctors are respected because of expertise Engineers because of efficiency Teachers because of contribution Chefs because of creativity Drivers because of discipline Workers because of labo...

Daily Mirror Part 5 | Language Above Caste

Image
Daily Mirror Part5A Poisonous Poison Language Above Caste: Sugar-Coated Casteism at the State Level (Series: Casteism — A Boon or a Curse? My Reflections) When you leave your district and enter a new state, something magical—and confusing— unfolds : Your caste identity shrinks , and your state identity expands . Suddenly, you are no longer: Brahmin, Modi, Gupta, Kushwaha,Yadav,  Banjara… You become: UP wale Bihar wale Marathi manus Gujarati Tamilian Bengali For people of another state, your language becomes your introduction . Your accent becomes your identity . Your caste moves to the background . But this is only half the truth. Because inside your own state, caste still breathes— softly, sweetly… and sugar-coated . 1. Identity Shifts: The Power of Language Cross into Karnataka , and every North Indian becomes “ Hindi people .” Move to North India , and every South Indian becomes “ Madrasi .” Come to Mumbai, and people judge first by: language mother tongue accent surnam...

Daily Mirror Part 4 |Business Above Caste

Image
Daily Mirror Part 4 |A Poisonous Poison Business Above Caste: The Filtered Casteism of Cities & Districts (Series on Casteism: A Boon or Curse – My Reflections) The moment you step from a town into a city or district headquarters, something surprising happens: Casteism does not disappear. It becomes polished . It becomes selective . It becomes convenient . It becomes smarter . Cities are not free of caste. Cities are just better at hiding it behind progress, opportunity , and modern language. At this level, casteism becomes a filter — visible only when the right light falls on it. 1. The Dual Identity: Village Name + Surname In cities, introductions carry two carefully chosen tags: “ Main ___ gaon ka hoon… aur surname ___ hai.” Because people know these two details will help others decode: • social standing • cultural behaviour • traditional background • past connections • potential influence Rural casteism was loud . Town-level casteism was gentle . But in cities, caste is d...

Daily Mirror Part 3 |The Mixture of Honey and Poison

Image
Daily Mirror — Part 3 |Poisonous Poison: Casteism at Town Level  The Mixture of Honey and Poison (Series on Casteism: A Boon or Curse – My Reflections) When you move from a village to a small town or block level, casteism changes its costume . It no longer roars openly . It smiles . It negotiates . It adjusts . It hides inside “daily systems.” But make no mistake— It still breathes . Town life reveals a strange truth: Casteism here is neither raw poison nor pure honey. It is a mixture— confusing, situational , and deeply ingrained . 1. Marketplaces: The Invisible Lines In towns, people share tea at roadside stalls , discuss politics, cricket, and government jobs. To an outsider, it looks like harmony . It looks progressive . But the moment you enter someone’s home , the invisible lines rise quietly. “Shop par chai le lo, ghar par mat aana.” ( Take tea at the shop, but don’t come home.) Incident A man once cycled 10 km to a town to collect his regular medicine. At the clinic, he ...

Daily Mirror Part 2 |Raw Poison in the Stem

Image
Daily Mirror Part 2|Raw Poison in the Stem,:  When Tradition Meets Politics From the series: “A Poisonous Poison — Casteism: A Boon or Curse? My Reflections” Opening Thought If the roots of casteism are silent and underground , the stem is loud, visible, unapologetic. Here, casteism doesn’t hide. It walks in daylight . It speaks openly . It punishes quietly . And sometimes… it humiliates brutally in front of everyone. This is Raw Poison — poison that burns without shame . A Developed Village… But Not Developed Enough When you move from a remote village to a semi-developed one, you expect awareness, growth , and change . But casteism grows too — only its style changes . It becomes less hidden, more organised . A wound that looks half-dried , but still infected underneath . Story 1: The Teacher and the Cup This incident is carved deeply in my memory. One day, my father sent me with a teacher from another village to the house of our village school headmaster. We were both served te...

Daily Mirror Part 1 |Poison at the Roots: The Invisible Walls

Image
Daily Mirror — Part 1 Poison at the Roots: The Invisible Walls From the series: A Poisonous Poison — Casteism: A Boon or Curse? My Reflections  By Rakesh Kushwaha Prologue In this series, I will share real experiences of people close to me. Some of them have endured the harshness of casteism silently — friends who trusted me with their pain, even as they rose to become principals, educators, leaders, and entrepreneurs. At the same time, I have also witnessed courage — individuals who took stands, sometimes small, sometimes incomplete, but always meaningful. Their efforts deserve acknowledgement too. I will mention names only where the story truly calls for it — not to expose anyone, but to honour their journey, their truth , and their strength . Opening Reflection Casteism does not begin on the surface . It begins underground — silently, deeply — like roots of a tree that decide the direction of the entire plant even before it grows. Before a child learns numbers, poems, or...

Casteism Layer1 Index Page: A Poisonous Poison

Image
A Poisonous Poison| Casteism A Boon or Curse? A Six-Part Reflective Series  by Rakesh Kushwaha Introduction  Casteism - a poisonous poison that has shaped India for centuries. Some call it tradition . Some call it identity . Some call it a system . But for those who have lived through its many layers, it becomes an experience of pain, adjustment, confusion, survival , and sometimes, silent rebellion. This series is not built on books or borrowed ideas. It flows from my eyes, ears, memories , and lived reality  -  • from a remote village to South Mumbai , • from district boards to international universities , • from childhood innocence to adult introspection. It is a journey through six layers of casteism -  from its cruel roots to its polished urban version , from visible discrimination to invisible profiling, from local identity to global freedom. Each part carries a different truth , a different observation , and a different turning point in m...
